Types Of Dental Braces

Posted on 8/7/2023 by Evan
Types Of Dental BracesBraces are available in various options. The most suitable type for you depends on several factors. These include the specific orthodontic issue you are facing, the severity of the condition, and your personal preferences. The selection of braces is tailored to your individual needs. It takes into account the best course of treatment to achieve optimal results. The following are various types of braces:

Metal/Traditional Braces

Metal braces consist of brackets, arch wires, and optional rubber bands or metal ties. The brackets are affixed to the front surface of your teeth, or bands may encircle each tooth. The flexible arch wires interconnect and secure the bands or brackets. Additional pressure for teeth alignment is achieved through the use of rubber bands or metal ties, which connect the bands or brackets to the wire. In some cases, your orthodontist may recommend using headgear, a removable device worn at night, to apply extra pressure for teeth straightening. You can easily put on and take off the headgear if need be.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are often referred to as invisible braces. These are customized trays that are precisely fitted to the teeth. They utilize controlled pressure to gradually shift your teeth into the wanted positions, effectively straightening your smile. You can remove the aligners when flossing, brushing, or eating. However, you must wear them for at least 22 hours daily for effective treatment.

Ceramic Braces

In modern traditional braces, the brackets are available in tooth-colored ceramic options, making them less noticeable. In addition to ceramic, brackets are crafted from clear materials, stainless steel, or gold. This gives patients a range of choices regarding aesthetics and personal preference.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a type of braces where the brackets are affixed to the back surfaces of your teeth, facing towards the tongue. This placement makes them less visible compared to traditional braces, which are positioned on the front of the teeth. Lingual braces provide a more discreet treatment option, as they are harder to see from the outside.
